After Cooper said he couldn't guarantee full capacity, he quit listening
to any further requests for guidance and options. All of a sudden last night, he wants the convention in NC (you can look it up), after a week of stonewalling.
It's appearing more and more obvious (you can look it up) that pressure from businesses run by intelligent people who can make the very distinctions you mention has been brought to bear. It's not just CLT that stands to lose, it's the mayor and the governor.
There was no "act of God" clause in the contract, so if NC and CLT prevent the convention by not negotiating in good faith, the city stands to lose tens of millions of dollars in lawsuits (and not just from the committee), as the city attorney advised City Council this past week (you can look it up), the notion of convention earnings aside.
Maybe all parties are coming around to reasonably discussing rational options the committee has requested of them all along.
